Apollon Limassol marks 72nd anniversary
Apollon Limassol, a prominent football club in Cyprus, celebrates its 72nd anniversary on April 14, 2024. The club was officially founded on April 14, 1954, following a general assembly of members from national associations and youth guilds led by Christakis Savvides. The inaugural board included Charalambos Lympouridis, Andreas Psyllidis, Antonakis Fourlas, Melis Charalambous, Andreas Theocharous, Andreas Angelopoulos, and Kostas Panagiotou. Initially known as the Athletic Musical Club Apollon Limassol, it focused on sports and social objectives. The club applied for membership to the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) on March 23, 1955, and was officially admitted to the second division on October 16, 1955. Led by captain Argyris Gavalas, the team secured the second division championship during the 1956-1957 season. Over its seven-decade history, the club has evolved into a major sports organization with a significant following.
