US-Iran negotiations in Islamabad conclude without agreement
United States Vice President J.D. Vance led an American delegation to unprecedented high-level talks with Iranian officials in Islamabad, Pakistan, over the past weekend. The discussions aimed to address the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and nuclear proliferation concerns. During the talks, the U.S. demanded that Iran surrender its entire stockpile of enriched uranium to Washington to ensure the country cannot produce high-grade nuclear material in the future. Vance stated that while the Iranian side made some initial steps, the progress was insufficient to reach a final agreement. He emphasized that the U.S. requires verifiable mechanisms to guarantee that Iran will not pursue nuclear weapons. While Vance described the outcome as a failure, Tehran stated that both parties were close to reaching an agreement before talks broke down. The U.S. administration maintains that the responsibility to move forward now lies with Iran.
