Continued violence in Gaza amid ceasefire negotiations
Recent Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip have resulted in varying reports of casualties, with health authorities citing between 4 and 11 Palestinian deaths. Key incidents included a strike on a police vehicle in Gaza City that killed at least one child and a police officer, as well as separate incidents near Jabalia and the Al-Shati refugee camp. The Israeli military confirmed an operation in Al-Shati, stating the target was Hamas militants, and reported killing an armed individual near Jabalia. Meanwhile, separate reports mention strikes in Deir al-Balah and a cafe in Gaza City, though the Israeli military did not comment on these. These incidents occur while Hamas representatives are meeting with Egyptian, Turkish, and Qatari mediators in Cairo to discuss the second phase of a US-backed ceasefire deal. Negotiations currently face hurdles, specifically regarding the proposed disarmament of Hamas over an eight-month period and the transition to a technocratic governing committee. Since the October 2025 ceasefire, over 750 Palestinians and four Israeli soldiers have been killed, with both sides accusing each other of violating the agreement.
