Cyprus tourism sector faces challenges due to regional instability
Cyprus hotel occupancy during the Easter period remained low, ranging between 25% and 45%, according to the Cyprus Hotel Association (PASYXE). Director General Christos Angelides noted that these figures are slightly below seasonal norms, partly because Easter is not a traditional period for domestic hotel stays. Most hotels have reopened for the season, with full sector operation expected by April 20. Christos Zannettou, Mayor of Ayia Napa, reported a 40% decline in April occupancy due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Industry professionals and officials emphasize that while Cyprus remains a safe destination, the conflict has led to cancellations and slow booking rates. Current data indicates that summer reservation levels remain largely unchanged from five weeks ago. Stakeholders are calling for intensified promotional campaigns to reassure international visitors. Despite a slight reduction in cancellation rates, there is no significant sign of a strong recovery in bookings yet.
