24-year-old man remanded in custody for attempted murder in Larnaca

A 24-year-old Syrian national has been remanded in custody for seven days by the Larnaca District Court following an attempted murder investigation. The incident occurred on April 12, 2026, at a nightclub in the Mackenzie area of Larnaca. According to police reports, the 24-year-old and a 19-year-old Greek Cypriot victim were strangers who collided accidentally in the crowded venue, triggering an argument. The altercation escalated when the suspect allegedly punched the victim in the face and subsequently stabbed him with a sharp object. The victim suffered a three-centimetre wound to the kidney area and a ruptured kidney, requiring hospitalization. While some initial media reports cited the suspect's age as 23 and the victim's as 20, official details clarified they are 24 and 19 respectively. The victim remains in stable condition and is considered to be out of danger. The Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department is investigating charges of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, and illegal possession of a knife.
