Pedestrian killed in taxi accident in Limassol
On Easter Sunday at approximately 9:45 pm, a fatal road accident occurred on Griva Digeni Street in the Ayios Nicolaos area of Limassol. A 58-year-old taxi driver struck a male pedestrian, identified by reports as a foreign national, who was attempting to cross the road from north to south. The impact resulted in the immediate death of the pedestrian, which was later confirmed at Limassol hospital. Emilios Kafas, assistant commander of the Limassol traffic police, confirmed that there was no pedestrian crossing at the location, although he noted that the area had adequate lighting. The driver tested negative for both alcohol and drugs in preliminary tests and was subsequently arrested. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances of the collision. Police intend to review nearby closed-circuit surveillance footage, though many local businesses were closed due to the holiday.
