Fatal pedestrian accident in Limassol

On Easter Sunday at approximately 21:45, a 41-year-old Ukrainian national named Oleh Deilyk was struck and killed by a taxi on Griva Digeni Street in Limassol, near the Ayios Nicolaos roundabout. The victim, who was in Cyprus under temporary protection status, was attempting to cross the road from north to south when the collision occurred. A 58-year-old taxi driver was arrested by local authorities following the incident. Police assistant commander Emilios Kafas confirmed that the driver passed both preliminary alcohol and drug tests. Authorities noted that there is no pedestrian crossing at the location, although street lighting was described as adequate. Police are continuing investigations, including the potential review of CCTV footage from nearby businesses, which were closed due to the holiday. The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Limassol General Hospital.
