United States military strikes in Eastern Pacific result in five deaths
On April 11, the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) conducted two separate airstrikes against speedboats in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The military operations resulted in the deaths of five individuals, according to official reports released by the United States. SOUTHCOM released declassified video footage documenting the engagement with the vessels. Since the inception of this military campaign in September 2025, a total of at least 168 individuals have been killed. The United States government maintains that the targets were involved in narcotics trafficking. However, critics, including United Nations officials and international observers, have challenged the legality of these actions, questioning whether sufficient evidence exists to support the claims of illegal activity. Detractors have characterized these operations as extrajudicial killings, sparking debate both within the United States and globally regarding the use of force in international or foreign waters.
