Eu agency reports high levels of concern regarding children's social media use in Cyprus

A pan-European survey by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), titled 'Protecting children on social media,' was released on April 12, 2026. The findings highlight significant public concern regarding the risks minors face when using online services. Cyprus ranks among the EU member states with the highest levels of concern, with 92% of respondents expressing worry. Across the European Union, over eight out of ten respondents reported being concerned or very concerned about risks related to children's social media usage. Specifically, 89% of those surveyed expressed fear regarding the potential for children to be approached online by individuals intending to exploit them. Similar high levels of concern were reported in Spain, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Slovenia, France, Ireland, Portugal, and Italy. In contrast, lower levels of concern were noted in Romania, Germany, Hungary, and Croatia. The report also gathers public and adolescent perspectives on potential minimum age limits for accessing social media platforms.
