Minors injured by firecrackers across Cyprus during Easter celebrations
Several incidents involving firecrackers resulted in injuries to minors in the Larnaca and Paphos districts during the Easter weekend. In Larnaca, police are investigating two separate cases: a 14-year-old sustained eye and finger injuries, while a 17-year-old suffered burns to his right hand after attempting to ignite unexploded factory-made firecrackers at a church courtyard. A separate report mentions a 16-year-old who was injured in the palm by a firecracker at a school in the Larnaca district. Additionally, in Kissonerga, Paphos, a child aged between 6 and 8 was transported to Paphos General Hospital following a hand injury caused by a firecracker explosion near a bonfire. All victims received medical treatment at local hospitals and were subsequently discharged. Law enforcement authorities, including the Kiti Police Station and the Larnaca Minor Offences Department, are actively investigating the circumstances of these incidents. These events highlight ongoing safety concerns regarding the use of pyrotechnics near minors during traditional celebrations.
