Building collapse in Yermasoyia leads to investigation
A residential building at 7 Aeschylou Street in the Potamos Germasogeias area of Limassol collapsed on April 11, 2026, resulting in two fatalities and multiple injuries. According to the Limassol District Government (EOA), the building was inspected on February 19, 2026, and officially declared dangerous on March 10, 2026. Registered letters were sent to the owners and the management committee on March 26, mandating evacuation and repairs within a three-month period. Despite these warnings, no remedial works were performed, and the building continued to be used for rentals. Evidence suggests that visitors had previously reported the building's poor condition, including exposed reinforcement and corroded columns, as early as mid-2024. Following the collapse, the remaining structure was completely demolished due to extreme instability. The police have established a dedicated investigation team to evaluate potential criminal liability and are currently collecting statements from tenants, owners, and local authorities. The case will eventually be referred to the Law Office for further legal instructions.
