Building collapse in Germasogeia, Limassol
A partial collapse of a two-story residential building occurred around 13:30 on Holy Saturday, April 11, 2026, on Aischylou Street in the Germasogeia area of Limassol. Emergency services, including the Fire Department, police, and the EMAK rescue unit, arrived promptly to search for survivors using drones and K9 units. Conflicting reports regarding casualties have emerged, with figures ranging from two to four individuals transported to the hospital; however, officials confirm all hospitalized individuals are currently out of danger. Rescue teams successfully extricated at least two people from the debris, while search operations for additional missing residents remained ongoing at the time of the reports. The building, which reportedly housed foreign nationals, was previously considered unsuitable for habitation. An operational command center was established under the Chief Fire Officer to coordinate the rescue effort. Civil engineers have been called to assess the site's structural integrity to ensure the safety of responders.
