Cyprus fire service handles multiple emergency incidents

Between 6 a.m. yesterday and 6 a.m. today, the Cyprus Fire Service responded to 54 incidents, comprising 42 fires and 12 special assistance calls. Of the 42 fires, 37 were associated with the Easter bonfire tradition, with 23 in Nicosia, six in Limassol, six in Larnaca, one in Paphos, and one handled by EMAK. Additionally, a blaze at an abandoned house in Limassol at 1:22 a.m. was caused by trash being set on fire, leading to a partial roof collapse. Firefighters also conducted a rescue operation in Larnaca at 12:16 p.m. on Good Friday after an individual fell two meters from a wooden house under construction. The victim was transported to the Larnaca General Hospital via ambulance after rescue crews used ropes and a stretcher. Spokesman Andreas Kettis noted that further calls regarding waste fires in Nicosia and Larnaca districts occurred after 6 a.m. today and remain under investigation. The exact total of these additional incidents will be reported within the next 24 hours.
