Limassol municipality hosts conference on the future of coastal cities
The Limassol Municipality held a conference focused on the development of coastal cities, attended by over 300 delegates including government officials, researchers, and European representatives. Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis opened the event, describing climate neutrality as a necessary urban model for economic resilience and social stability. He emphasized that achieving this requires systematic collaboration across government, scientific, and private sectors. The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, and the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Michalis Damianos, represented the Cyprus government, confirming their commitment to green transition policies. European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, also spoke at the event. Kadis highlighted the front-line role of coastal cities in climate action, urging a balance between environmental protection, economic growth, and citizen involvement. The discussions aimed to establish a framework for integrated urban policies.
