United States and Iran exchange proposals amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced 'Project Freedom,' a military operation starting Monday to clear shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a humanitarian effort to assist neutral countries. The U.S. Central Command confirmed the deployment of destroyers, 100 aircraft, and 15,000 personnel for this mission. Simultaneously, Iran has submitted a 14-point peace proposal via Pakistan, aiming to end the 40-day conflict within 30 days. The Iranian plan includes non-aggression guarantees, the lifting of naval blockades, and a return to uranium enrichment at 3.6 percent, while rejecting the destruction of nuclear infrastructure. President Trump has publicly dismissed the Iranian proposal as unacceptable, though he noted that 'very positive' discussions are ongoing. Tehran warned that any U.S. interference in the Strait of Hormuz will be viewed as a violation of the current ceasefire established on April 8. Tensions remain high as both sides evaluate their positions, with Iran emphasizing that the 14-point plan does not include negotiations on its nuclear program at this stage.
