Fatal fire incidents reported in Nea Smyrni and Patras

Two separate fire incidents occurred in Greece, resulting in two fatalities. In Nea Smyrni, a woman was found dead in a sixth-floor apartment on Vyziniou Street after a fire broke out shortly before 8:00 PM; 21 firefighters and 6 vehicles were deployed to the scene. In a separate event in Patras at the intersection of Asimaki Fotila and Panachaiko streets, a 92-year-old woman, identified as the mother of former Justice Ministry official Marinos Skandamis, died in a fifth-floor apartment fire. The elderly woman's domestic helper escaped with minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. Additionally, a child living in the same Patras building required medical attention for respiratory issues caused by smoke inhalation. The building in Patras was evacuated, and the area was cordoned off as authorities managed the situation. The causes of both fires remain unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
