Cyprus central bank reports economic statistics for 2025

On Thursday, the Central Bank of Cyprus released preliminary external statistics for 2025. The current account deficit improved, falling to €2,336.5 million (6.4% of GDP) compared to €2,852.6 million (8.2% of GDP) in 2024. When adjusting for Special Purpose Entities (SPEs), the deficit was €2,677.9 million, down from €2,337.7 million in 2024. The net international investment position improved to a liability of €28,165.0 million. Gross external debt decreased to €225,188.5 million from €234,412.4 million in 2024, while net external debt fell to €1,565.2 million. Additionally, Eurostat data for Q4 2025 indicated a current account deficit of €817.2 million for Cyprus, an improvement from the €1,416.6 million deficit recorded in Q4 2024. Cyprus also reported a €2.5 billion surplus in the services sector for the same period.
