Vandalism of Akel election posters in Polis Chrysochous
The Paphos district committee of the Akel party reported that unknown individuals vandalized election campaign posters in Polis Chrysochous overnight. According to the party, the posters of its candidates were defaced with swastikas and other hate symbols, specifically over the faces of the depicted individuals. Akel characterized the act as a deliberate attempt by far-right elements to intimidate the party and the public. The party stated that such actions are an attempt to spread hatred and division within society. Despite the vandalism, the committee declared that its members remain undeterred and will continue their election campaign. The party emphasized that its democratic stance will not be silenced by what it described as cowardly actions. A formal statement issued on Friday called the incident an act of absolute depravity. Akel vowed that a decisive response would be delivered by voters during the upcoming elections on May 24.
