Driver causes damage to municipal property in Protaras

On the evening of Wednesday, April 8, 2026, a driver struck several stainless steel bollards in Protaras. These bollards had been recently installed on sidewalks to protect pedestrians and prevent illegal parking. The impact caused significant damage to the municipal property. Following the collision, the driver fled the scene. Through the cooperation of the Paralimni-Deryneia Municipality and the Famagusta Police Department, the driver was located shortly thereafter. The police have officially filed charges against the individual for the incident. Mayor Georgios Nikolettos stated that the municipality will not tolerate the destruction of public property and advocates for strict penalties.
