Antonis Georgallidis passes away at 65

Antonis Georgallidis, a former sprint champion and the long-time general director of the Cyprus Amateur Athletics Association (KOEAS), died on April 9, 2026, at the age of 65. He had been battling cancer since his diagnosis in September 2020. Georgallidis passed away at the Nicosia General Hospital following a recent decline in his health. Throughout his career, he served in various roles at KOEAS for approximately 40 years, including 14 years as general director. At the time of his death, he held the position of president of the Technical Committee. KOEAS President Periklis Markaris expressed his condolences to Georgallidis's family, including his wife, Katia, and their children. Georgallidis was a former record holder in both Cypriot and Greek national athletics. His contributions to the development of Cypriot athletics were recognized by his peers and colleagues.
