Antonis Georgallides, former general director of KOEAS, passes away at 65

Antonis Georgallides, a long-serving figure in Cypriot athletics, passed away on Maundy Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the age of 65. He had been battling cancer since his diagnosis in September 2020. Georgallides served the Cyprus Amateur Athletics Federation (KOEAS) for approximately 40 years, spending the last 14 as its general director. Before his administrative career, he was a track and field champion and a record holder in sprint events. He also served as a technical committee president and frequently led athletic delegations for the Cyprus Olympic Committee. His funeral is scheduled for the Wednesday after Easter, at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Nicosia. He is survived by his wife, Katia, and his children. Colleagues, including KOEAS president Periklis Markaris, have expressed their condolences for the loss of a significant contributor to the sport.
