President Christodoulides orders investigation into corruption allegations by journalist Drousiotis
President Nikos Christodoulides has pledged a full investigation into corruption allegations made by journalist Makarios Drousiotis, who claims to have uncovered a network involving political and judicial figures. Drousiotis provided authorities with over 130 digital files, including screenshots and spreadsheets, alongside a mobile phone belonging to a key witness referred to as ‘Sandy’. The Cypriot cabinet has decided to send these materials to Europol’s cybercrime laboratories for forensic analysis to ensure impartiality. Justice Minister Costas Fitiris stated the move aims to maintain technical accuracy and address potential bias. Simultaneously, the government has formally denied allegations by Drousiotis that the witness ‘Sandy’ was ever employed by the presidential office. During a visit to the police academy on Thursday, the President emphasized his role as a guardian of the constitution and urged public figures to act responsibly to avoid political instability. When questioned about whether these claims were intended to disrupt upcoming elections, the President declined to speculate. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities process the provided evidence.
