Miner rescued after 14 days in flooded Mexico gold mine
On March 25, a tailings dam failure at a gold mine in the Mexican state of Sinaloa trapped four of the 25 workers on-site. While 21 workers initially escaped, four remained trapped, one of whom later died while another, Jose Alejandro Castulo, was rescued after five days. On April 8, after 14 days and over 300 hours of searching, 42-year-old miner Francisco Zapata Najera was located at a depth of 300 meters. Divers discovered his location after spotting his flashlight signal in the flooded tunnel. Due to hazardous conditions, rescuers initially provided him with food and water before finalizing his extraction. One additional miner remains missing. Search efforts are ongoing to locate the final individual.
