18-year-olds remanded in custody over abuse of 10-month-old infant in Pyrgos

A 10-month-old girl from Pyrgos is being treated at the Karamandaneio Hospital in Patras following reports of severe physical abuse. The infant suffered over forty injuries, including cigarette burns, fractures, and human bite marks, which forensic reports indicate occurred over the past three months. The 18-year-old partner of the infant's mother allegedly confessed to biting the child when intoxicated and burning her with cigarettes. Both the mother and her partner, also 18, have been remanded in custody by judicial authorities. The mother faces charges of failing to intervene, claiming she was afraid of her partner, while both individuals are prosecuted for intentional grievous bodily harm against a vulnerable person. Forensic experts confirmed that the bite marks were inflicted by a human rather than an animal. The child remains hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities were alerted to the severity of the abuse following the medical evaluation.
