Cyprus launches three-year AI project to align education with labour market needs

On March 20, 2026, the CySKILLS-AI project was officially launched at the CYENS Centre of Excellence in Nicosia. This three-year initiative is led by Artemis Intelligence in partnership with CYENS and is funded by the Republic of Cyprus via the Research and Innovation Foundation’s AI in Government programme. The project aims to resolve four structural issues: data fragmentation, a 24 to 36-month lag in curriculum updates, a lack of predictive capabilities, and the inability to systematically process thousands of monthly job postings. With skills cycles in sectors like ICT often lasting only 12 to 18 months, current policy responses are frequently rendered obsolete by the time they are implemented. To address this, the project utilizes a three-layer system that consolidates data from historical surveys, real-time job advertisements, and higher education records. Specialized AI agents will then process this data to manage skills intelligence and mismatch analysis. The initiative involves the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy.
