Cyprus Chamber of Commerce warns of tourism industry crisis

The Tourism Committee of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has issued a warning regarding the critical state of the national tourism industry. Despite a recent temporary ceasefire in the Middle East, the committee reports that ongoing geopolitical instability is severely impacting market confidence and tourist inflows. Analysts indicate that the month of May is trending toward significant losses, which removes a key opportunity for early-season economic recovery. The CCCI cautions that without immediate intervention, the sector faces irreversible consequences, including widespread business closures, loss of income, and job cuts. These challenges have triggered a chain reaction across the entire tourism ecosystem. Specifically, travel agencies, aviation, shipping, and land transport companies are experiencing reduced activity. Additionally, the HORECA sector, including hotels, restaurants, and car rental services, is under significant financial pressure. The committee emphasized that these issues are not transient and represent a broad threat to the wider Cypriot economy.
