Eurostat reports Cyprus leads EU in social media usage among youth
Data published by Eurostat for 2025 shows that Cyprus holds the highest rate of social media usage among people aged 16 to 29 in the European Union, reaching 98.3%. Other high-performing nations include the Czech Republic at 97.2%, Denmark at 96.9%, and Finland at 96.6%. Conversely, the lowest usage rates for this demographic were recorded in Italy (80.3%), Germany (84.2%), and Luxembourg (84.8%). Across the EU, approximately 89.3% of youth use social media, compared to 67.3% of the total population, indicating a significant generational gap. Croatia, Austria, and Poland reported the largest disparities between youth and general population usage rates. In contrast, Denmark, Malta, and Cyprus showed the smallest gaps, suggesting higher adoption among older generations in these countries. Within Cyprus, specific usage rates for those aged 16-29 were 98.31% for men and 98.17% for women, with high penetration continuing into older age cohorts.
