Ministry of Justice and OEB sign memorandum to reintegrate former inmates into the labor market
The Cyprus Ministry of Justice and Public Order and the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) have signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate the labor market integration of inmates and former inmates. This agreement renews and strengthens a previous 2020 partnership that successfully facilitated the professional rehabilitation of 116 individuals. The program provides subsidies to employers covering labor costs of up to €860 per month for a period of two years, totaling a maximum of €20,640 per participant. Eligible beneficiaries include prisoners under electronic monitoring, those released on license, individuals under the supervision of the Center for Extra-Institutional Employment and Rehabilitation, and those who have already completed their sentences. The initiative aims to support social reintegration and reduce recidivism rates by providing sustainable employment opportunities. Officials state that access to work is the primary factor in successful social reentry. This policy views the correctional process as an organized path toward rehabilitation with tangible professional prospects.
