Holy Light to be transported to Cyprus from Jerusalem on Holy Saturday
The Holy Light is scheduled to arrive in Cyprus from Jerusalem on the afternoon of Holy Saturday, April 11, 2026. A special Aegean Airlines flight, identified as an Airbus A320, is expected to land at Larnaca International Airport at 17:00. Representatives of the Exarchate of the Holy Sepulchre in Cyprus will accompany the flame to oversee its arrival and distribution. Although the ceremony was initially uncertain due to regional instability and the conflict in the Middle East, the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed it would proceed as scheduled following a decrease in missile activity. The transfer was made possible through cooperation between the Cypriot and Greek governments, specifically coordinated by Foreign Ministers Constantinos Kombos and George Gerapetritis. Strict security measures, including limiting attendance at the ceremony in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to 50 people, were implemented by Israeli authorities. Following the arrival in Cyprus, the flame will be distributed to churches across all districts for the Easter Vigil service.
