Easter market activity in Cyprus maintains stable prices and supply

Easter market activity in Cyprus has reached its peak with officials confirming sufficient meat supplies. Marios Antoniou and president of the butchers’ association Kostas Livadiotis stated that lamb prices remain comparable to last year's levels. Although concerns were initially raised regarding potential shortages due to a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak and animal culling, the situation has stabilized. Effective disease management encouraged farmers to sell livestock, which helped prevent significant price hikes. Currently, movement restrictions for animal transport remain in effect to contain the disease, preventing traders from visiting multiple farms in one day. These logistical hurdles have resulted in longer collection times for livestock. Despite these constraints, approximately 6,000 to 7,000 animals are being slaughtered daily to meet the holiday demand.
