Cyprus Olympic Committee appoints mission leaders for 2026 events
The Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) has announced the appointments of mission leaders for three major international sporting events scheduled for 2026. Yiannos Fotiou, treasurer of the COC, will lead the delegation to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, taking place from July 23 to August 2. Andreas Theofylaktou, president of the Cyprus Archery Federation, has been appointed as the mission leader for the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, running from August 21 to September 3. This marks the second consecutive time Theofylaktou serves as mission leader for the Mediterranean Games, following the 2022 event in Oran, Algeria, and his third consecutive appearance since Tarragona 2018. Additionally, Giorgos Papageorgiou, a member of the Executive Council, will head the mission for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, held from October 31 to November 13. Theofylaktou noted that his selection was based on experience rather than current status as a COC member. The committee also acknowledged the support of corporate partners including Allwyn, Logicom, Eurobank, and Petrolina.
