Florida woman indicted for first-degree murder of her newborn
Twenty-year-old Anne Mae Demegillo, a resident of Palm Coast, Florida, is facing first-degree murder charges following the death of her newborn daughter. Authorities state that Demegillo gave birth in a toilet at her home during the early hours of March 5. Prosecutors allege she witnessed the infant crying and drowning before leaving to attend university classes and a theatrical performance. She reportedly returned later that day to bury the child in her backyard. The case came to light after Demegillo allegedly sent a message to a friend, who subsequently alerted the police. Initially arrested on March 6 and charged with aggravated manslaughter, she was briefly released on bond before being indicted by a grand jury on charges including first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and tampering with evidence. Demegillo is currently held in custody without bond.
