Larnaca criminal case defendants released under strict conditions
On Wednesday, the Larnaca permanent criminal court ordered the conditional release of three defendants out of four involved in an alleged criminal syndicate case. The court's decision followed a significant revision of the indictment, which resulted in several charges being removed. The released individuals include a 42-year-old man and two 29-year-old men, all of whom pleaded not guilty to the revised charges. The 42-year-old now faces counts of money laundering and participation in a criminal organization, while the 29-year-olds face charges of aiding and abetting money laundering. To ensure their attendance, the court ordered each to post a 30,000 euro bond with guarantors, surrender travel documents, and report to a police station three times per week. They have also been placed on a stop list. A 22-year-old suspect, identified as a member of the SYOP, remains in custody because he faces additional charges, including the attempted murder of a local businessman. A 32-year-old suspect involved in the initial investigation was previously acquitted due to a lack of sufficient evidence. The trial is scheduled to resume on May 5.
