Social insurance services warn of fraudulent phishing emails
On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the Cyprus Social Insurance Services issued an official warning regarding a mass phishing email campaign. The fraudulent messages falsely claim that the recipient has been approved for a benefit payment. To receive this supposed benefit, the scammer requests bank account details and a payment of a 10-euro administrative fee. The Social Insurance Services clarified that they never request fees for benefit application approvals. Officials confirmed that all legitimate communication from the department is conducted exclusively via email addresses ending in '@mlsi.gov.cy'. Recipients are advised not to click on any links contained in these suspicious messages. The public is urged to delete such emails immediately to prevent potential financial loss.
