U.S. Vice President Vance addresses status of ceasefire with Iran
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the ongoing two-week ceasefire with Iran is fragile, emphasizing that the U.S. never promised the inclusion of Lebanon in the agreement. While Iran insists that a ceasefire in Lebanon is a core condition of their 10-point plan, Vance maintains that the Lebanese conflict remains outside the current negotiation framework. Tensions escalated following intense Israeli bombardment in Lebanon, which resulted in at least 182 deaths and 890 injuries, according to the local health ministry. Concurrently, U.S. forces conducted strikes on Iran's Kharg Island, targeting military installations while avoiding energy infrastructure. Vance clarified that these strikes do not represent a change in U.S. strategy and are intended to pressure Iran toward a productive agreement. President Donald Trump has demanded that Iran renounce nuclear weapons and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Vance warned that if Iran fails to negotiate in good faith, the U.S. retains significant military and economic leverage.
