Cyprus Deputy Minister of Tourism discusses tourism outlook in London
Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis met with strategic partners in London to evaluate the current tourism season. He acknowledged that the Middle East crisis has impacted tourism in Cyprus and the wider region. Despite earlier negative reports, Koumis noted that May is performing better than expected and remains viable. He clarified that reaching last year’s record-breaking figures is not expected for the current season. The minister emphasized that maintaining positive momentum requires weekly analysis and coordinated action from the entire tourism sector. While summer projections remain difficult to predict due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, major tour operators are currently maintaining their Cyprus programs. Koumis identified April as a critical month that will significantly influence the overall demand for the year. He remains cautiously optimistic that total losses will be lower than initial forecasts.
