Cyprus hosts climate action conference for the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East
The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, addressed the international conference titled 'Climate Action in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East: Regional Cooperation Enhanced by Science and Innovation'. The two-day event, held on Wednesday and Thursday at the Filoxenia Conference Centre in Nicosia, is organized by the Climate Change Initiative in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East (EMME-CCI). It takes place under the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. In a video message, President Christodoulides defined climate change as a strategic imperative and a threat to regional stability, arguing that the cost of inaction outweighs the cost of timely intervention. He highlighted that the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East are among the world's most vulnerable regions to climatic shifts. The President stated that the area faces dual pressures from geopolitical instability and environmental degradation. The conference focuses on integrating scientific research and innovation to mitigate these risks effectively.
