Conflicting reports on ceasefire status in Lebanon following US-Iran deal
Hezbollah reportedly halted fire on northern Israel and Israeli troops in Lebanon on Wednesday as part of a US-Iran brokered ceasefire. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the two-week truce covers Lebanon, where conflict has persisted since March 2. Conversely, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that the ceasefire does not apply to the Lebanese front. Despite the reported halt, Israel issued new evacuation orders for a southern Lebanese city, signaling continued military operations. The Lebanese army has advised displaced residents, numbering over 1.2 million, to delay returning home due to active threats and unexploded ordnance. Since the conflict began, the death toll in Lebanon has surpassed 1,500, including 130 children and over 100 women. Hezbollah is expected to issue a formal statement regarding the discrepancy between the mediators' claims and Netanyahu's position. The group's last operational update occurred at 1 a.m. Wednesday, noting attacks on Israeli forces the previous evening.
