Death of Romanian football coach Mircea Lucescu at 80

Romanian football manager Mircea Lucescu has passed away at the age of 80 following a period of declining health. Reports indicate he suffered a heart attack on April 3 while hospitalized, though his death was officially confirmed later. Over his long career, Lucescu managed numerous clubs including Corvinul, Dinamo Bucharest, Pisa, Brescia, Inter, Galatasaray, Besiktas, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit, and Dynamo Kyiv, as well as the national teams of Romania and Turkey. His tenure at Shakhtar Donetsk between 2004 and 2016 was particularly notable, spanning 573 matches. Among his numerous honors are a UEFA Cup title with Shakhtar in 2009 and a UEFA Super Cup with Galatasaray in 2000. He was the father of Razvan Lucescu, the current head coach of PAOK FC in Greece. PAOK FC issued an official statement expressing condolences to Razvan and his family, honoring Mircea Lucescu for his contributions to the sport.
