British destroyer HMS Dragon stops for maintenance in Eastern Mediterranean
The British Type 45 destroyer HMS Dragon has entered a port in the Eastern Mediterranean for a scheduled refueling stop and maintenance. The UK Ministry of Defence stated that this period will allow the crew to resupply and optimize ship systems, specifically citing a technical issue with the vessel's water supply. The ship arrived in the region on March 23, having departed Portsmouth on March 10, to support the defense of British military bases, particularly the RAF base at Akrotiri in Cyprus, following a drone attack. While some reports describe this as a withdrawal due to mechanical failure, British officials maintain that the ship remains at a high level of readiness and can deploy on short notice. The vessel is equipped to intercept various types of drones and ballistic missiles. The UK government affirmed that its broader defensive presence, including Typhoon and F-35 aircraft, remains active in coordination with regional allies.
