Giorgos Donis linked to Saudi Arabia national team role
Giorgos Donis is expected to leave his position as head coach of Al-Khaleej at the conclusion of the current season. According to reports from the Middle East, he is considered a primary candidate to manage the Saudi Arabian national team should Hervé Renard depart after the World Cup. These reports follow news from the newspaper Al Riyadiyah that negotiations for a contract extension at Al-Khaleej have stalled. The club reportedly rejected the 56-year-old manager's requested salary increase and asked him to revise his financial demands. Since taking charge in July 2024, Donis has led Al-Khaleej in 63 matches, recording 20 wins, 13 draws, and 30 losses. Throughout his career, the Greek manager has coached several clubs in the region, including Al-Wehda, Al-Fateh, and Al-Hilal, as well as teams in Greece, Israel, and Cyprus. The Saudi Football Federation currently recognizes his experience within the domestic league.
