Cyprus and Greece conduct bilateral search and rescue exercise Salamis-02/26
From March 30 to April 7, 2026, Cyprus and Greece conducted a joint search and rescue exercise named Salamis-02/26. The training took place within the official search and rescue area of the Republic of Cyprus. The exercise was coordinated by the Larnaca Joint Rescue Coordination Center in collaboration with the Hellenic National Defence General Staff. Participating naval units included the Hellenic Navy frigates Kimon and Psara. Aerial support was provided by a helicopter from the 460th Search and Rescue Squadron of the Cypriot National Guard and a helicopter from the Police Aviation Operations Unit. Medical support was managed by the Medevac special unit of the Ambulance Service. The exercise was executed under the existing interstate agreement on search and rescue between Cyprus and Greece. The primary objective was to improve operational readiness and upgrade the quality of search and rescue services in the eastern Mediterranean region.
