Consumer behavior survey reveals financial strain in Cyprus households
A 2026 consumer behavior study conducted by the Pancyprian Association of Consumers and Quality of Life, in collaboration with Cypronetwork Ltd, indicates that 66% of Cypriot households face varying degrees of financial difficulty. Based on a representative sample of 1,000 individuals surveyed between February 16 and March 9, 2026, the findings were presented on Holy Tuesday at the Journalists' Union House in Nicosia. Data shows 34% of citizens live comfortably, while 26% struggle slightly, 25% barely manage their obligations, 13% face significant hardship, and 2% report survival struggles. Nearly nine out of ten respondents reported price increases for food, essential goods, and electricity. Despite these pressures, two-thirds of households stated their income remained stable. Consequently, one-fourth of citizens have reduced travel due to fuel costs, and many are adopting defensive spending habits by focusing primarily on essentials.
