Journalist submits evidence to police as cabinet reviews corruption allegations

Journalist and Volt candidate Makarios Drousiotis submitted a 34-page statement and 137 pieces of electronic evidence to police on Tuesday regarding corruption and abuse allegations. Drousiotis criticized the police investigation, claiming that investigators were trying to discredit his evidence as fake before evaluating it. He specifically cited a conversation with lead investigator Erotokritos Erotokritou, where the reliability of digital messages was questioned. Conversely, police sources reported that a key witness, known as 'Sandy,' told investigators that the SMS messages in the case are not authentic. Police are treating her account with skepticism, fearing she may be under pressure, and intend to call her for further questioning. The Cyprus Cabinet is scheduled to discuss the matter on Wednesday, with Justice Minister Kostas Fytiris expected to brief ministers on the police inquiry. Drousiotis has called for the appointment of independent criminal investigators, while opposition leader Annita Demetriou urged restraint in public discourse to avoid destabilizing state institutions.
