POED president addresses school violence and appointment system reforms

Myria Vasiliou, the President of POED, has expressed concern regarding the increasing incidents of school violence and delinquent behavior reported in the 2024-2025 school year annual report. The union has initiated discussions with the Ministry of Education and plans to implement holistic management actions in the near future. Furthermore, Vasiliou addressed ongoing concerns regarding the New Appointment Scheme and the appointment lists. She stated that recent examination results highlighted structural flaws in the current system. POED specifically advocates against the planned abolition of the 'Dioristeon' (Appointed) list in 2027. The union claims that if these systemic issues are not corrected, schools will face significant staffing shortages in the coming years. Discussions between the union and the Ministry of Education remain necessary to address these administrative and safety issues.
