The Larnaca Permanent Assize Court sentenced a 31-year-old man of Iraqi origin, who holds Cypriot citizenship, to four years in prison. The defendant pleaded guilty to charges of causing grievous bodily harm and making threats. The incident occurred on August 14, 2025, at the Reception and Hospitality Center for Immigrants in Kofinou, where both the perpetrator and the victim were employed as security guards for a private company. Following a workplace dispute and a verbal altercation earlier that day, the defendant returned to the center at approximately 11:00 p.m. He summoned his colleague, a Bulgarian national, from the guardhouse before attacking him with an 11-centimeter folding knife. The victim sustained a stab wound to his left abdomen and abrasions on his arm and lower limbs. Following the attack, the victim received 24 hours of hospital treatment, including sutures.
