Supreme Court rejects Metropolitan Tychikos’s request to submit supplementary evidence
The Supreme Court of Cyprus, presided over by Judge A. David, has rejected an application by the suspended Metropolitan Tychikos to file a supplementary affidavit. Tychikos is currently seeking legal permission to challenge the Holy Synod's decision from February 8, 2026, which imposed an indefinite suspension upon him. His pending legal action includes requests for certiorari to annul the suspension, mandamus to compel the Church to release related documents, and a prohibition order to halt the process of filling the vacant position of the Metropolitan of Paphos. The additional affidavit aimed to introduce a ruling issued by the Ecumenical Patriarchate on March 12, 2026, regarding his appeal against the suspension. The court determined that the new evidence was not essentially connected to the specific, narrow procedural scope of the current application. This ruling is strictly procedural and does not address the substantive merits of the Metropolitan's suspension. The legal dispute over his position and the requested writs remains ongoing.
