Armed attack occurs at the Israeli consulate in Istanbul

On April 7, an armed attack took place near the Israeli consulate in the Levent district of Istanbul. Three assailants arrived in a rented vehicle from Izmit and engaged in a ten-minute firefight with police, resulting in the death of one attacker and the injury of two others, identified as brothers Onur C. and Enes C. Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the confrontation. Turkish authorities have arrested a total of 11 suspects in connection with the incident following operations in multiple cities, including Kocaeli and Konya. The Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that one attacker had links to an organization exploiting religious rhetoric. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an official investigation, and a separate probe is underway regarding online commentary about the event. The Israeli consulate has been inactive for approximately 2.5 years, with no diplomatic staff present at the site. Both the Turkish and Israeli governments have condemned the incident as a terrorist act.
