Meat supply sufficient and prices stable during Holy Week

President of the Pancyprian Butchers Association, Costas Leivadiotis, confirmed that meat prices in the domestic market remain at last year's levels during Holy Week. Despite initial concerns that an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease and subsequent culling of animals would drive prices up, the situation has stabilized due to progress in disease management and increased supply from farmers. There is sufficient meat available to cover market demand. However, distributors face logistical challenges due to restrictive measures regarding the transport of livestock between farms and monitored areas. These regulations prevent livestock traders from visiting multiple locations in a single day, causing delays in collecting the necessary quantities of meat. With three days remaining until Easter, approximately 6,000 to 7,000 animals are being slaughtered daily to meet consumer needs.
