Police in Larnaca arrest two men in separate incidents
On April 8, 2026, a 64-year-old resident of Nicosia was arrested in Larnaca district for illegal possession of 60 firecrackers discovered during a routine traffic check. The suspect was charged in writing and released pending a court appearance, while the fireworks were seized. Separately, on April 7, 2026, a 25-year-old Larnaca resident was arrested in Dromolaxia following a pursuit that began shortly after midnight. The suspect's vehicle collided with a patrol car, leading officers to fire warning shots to stop him. Upon apprehension, police found 93 grams of cannabis, a small amount of cocaine, four live cartridges, and a knife in his possession. Two officers sustained injuries during the struggle and were treated and discharged from Larnaca General Hospital. The 25-year-old was remanded in custody for eight days by the Larnaca District Court to facilitate ongoing investigations by the Drug Law Enforcement Unit and Kiti police.
